 6T6 MRT Ford Mustang

Roush and Saleen make complete, re-engineered cars from the Mustang platform, but there is a network of less well-known companies specializing in aftermarket support for Mustang enthusiasts. One of these companies is Mustang Racing Technologies from Michigan

The “Cherry 6T6″ is the latest in MRT’s line of Mustang show cars for SEMA. This year’s car is a nicely tricked out convertible, featuring a full-spectrum of off-the-shelf parts and accessories for the new-generation Mustang.

The car is powered by a twin-turbo version of the 4-liter V6, delivering 300 hp at the rear wheels. The interior includes stock seats reskinned with a Sparco leather kit, and a 6 inch monitor audio/video system. Chassis mods include an adjustable H&R coilover kit, new brakes, and 20-inch Foose wheels wrapped in Pirelli PZero rim protectors. Lots of pictures of the build-up can be seen at their website.

The Ford Mustang GT500 Convertible is the successor to the Mustang Cobra convertible. Its supercharged iron 5.4-liter V8 will produce 475 lb-ft of torque and 475 hp–approximately seventy hp less than the 550-hp all-aluminum version of this engine in the GT supercar. That power goes through a six-speed stick and a solid rear end (no fancy independent rear suspension this time). Surprisingly, only eighteen-inch wheels will be offered initially–the same size that’s optional on the Mustang GT–but keen Mustang fans will spot the unique rim design, more aggressive front end styling, and power vent hood. Ford spruced up the GT500 with a fabric roof (instead of vinyl), a leather-wrapped dash, and the basic Mustang interior is a pretty nice place anyhow. The GT500 Convertible goes on sale concurrently with the coupe in the summer of 2006 at a sticker price of less than $45,000.
